On August 2nd and 3rd, 2024, the African Climate Reality Project, SACAN, and Global Shapers Tshwane Hub hosted the Local Conference of Youth South Africa. The event focused on capacitating youth in climate policy, finance, and the Just Transition, while co-creating the “Youth Position on the Just Transition.” This statement will not only be presented at COP29 but will also be part of a global synthesis of youth climate policy demands coordinated by YOUNGO, the official children and youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The African Climate Reality’s West Africa Hub hosted the Fair Finance School in Accra, Ghana, between 15-16 July 2024. The objective of the Fair Finance School is to share experiences, knowledge, and build capacity among participants. The school aims to empower civil society, activists, and organisations to actively engage in financial matters and reclaim economics, recognizing that the economy involves and affects everyone.
From November 13 to 15, The Climate Reality Project, hosted the 54th Climate Leadership training in Accra, Ghana training almost 600 people from more than 20 West African countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Benin, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Liberia, Cameroon and Senegal, to name a few . 35 speakers from across the continent shared their expertise on diverse topics, including the importance of climate finance in discussions on a Just Transition, and the impact of art on climate change. In addition to the training in Ghana, a satellite event was held in Nigeria for Climate Leaders.
