Calls for climate justice and fair financing at COP29

As the world gathers for COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, the African Climate Reality Project (ACRP) has set forth its clear vision for climate justice, equity and the protection of vulnerable communities, especially those in the Global South.
Central to their approach is the urgent need for quality climate finance, which they define as finance that is not only abundant but also transparent, responsive and equitable.
ACRP emphasises that the quality of climate finance is just as crucial as its quantity. Quality finance, they argue, must be equitable and reflect the historical and ongoing inequalities in climate impacts.
This means prioritising countries that are most affected by climate change, but have contributed the least to it.
The organisation stresses that financial resources should be directed toward sectors most in need, with a particular focus on ensuring that the recipient countries have a say in the allocation of resources.
