Unveiling the Harsh Realities of Climate Change in Old Fadama’s Konkomba Community.
John Coblah Matrevi, together with his team, carried out an enumeration exercise in the Konkomba community of Old Fadama to assess the impacts of climate change on residents. The study revealed low awareness of climate change, with many attributing it to divine intervention or pollution, and others unaware of its meaning. The community faces recurring flooding and fire outbreaks, worsened by poor infrastructure and limited disaster preparedness, alongside a deep mistrust of institutions. Despite these challenges, residents showed resilience, sharing their experiences during a meeting attended by government and media representatives.
John Coblah calls for targeted interventions, including climate awareness workshops, infrastructure upgrades, and community-led initiatives, and remains committed to advocating for vulnerable urban communities.
